Who this course is for

Rain fell upstream where you could not see it. Strategy moved, a regulator published, a competitor did something, somebody's priorities changed in a room you will never sit in. Nobody sends a note to the projects. The water arrives at your position later, usually in a budget conversation, six to eighteen months after the thing that mattered happened.

What this course actually says

Ask a PM why their project was funded and most cannot say beyond the business case summary. Ask who wanted it and they can name a sponsor but not the reason that sponsor cared.

Which means when the reason expires, there is no mechanism for finding out. You cannot see the weather. You can read the water, and there are signals that arrive well before the budget cycle does.

What you leave able to do

Tell whether your project still matters to the organization, and find out months before anybody tells you.

Three modules, one month

You are downstream. Write the sentence that, if it became true, would mean this project should stop. Then work out how you would learn that it had. Most PMs discover they have no mechanism at all.

Reading the water. Language changing in leadership communications, which is the cheapest signal and the most ignored. Reorganizations, since structure follows strategy and moves before budgets. Attention as the leading indicator of funding, because money follows interest with a lag.

What you do about it. The useful options are all available early and all gone late. Early you can reshape, resequence, or re justify. Late you can only be cancelled.

Three lessons learned, tied to real projects, in your own words. Your project's expiry condition and how you would learn it had been met. The three indicators you watch and what they turned out to mean. And an honest re justification of something live against the priorities your organization has now rather than the ones it had when the project was funded.
