Exam Details
What is the current PMP exam format?
The short answer
The PMP exam is a 240-minute test consisting of 180 questions. 170 are scored, and 10 are unscored pretest questions. It includes multiple-choice, multiple responses, matching, hotspot, and limited fill-in-the-blank questions.
The exam evaluates how candidates apply project management principles to situational scenarios, requiring practical interpretation of the Exam Content Outline.
Candidates have 240 minutes to complete the 180 questions. The computer-based exam includes two 10-minute breaks. Candidates should confirm current break rules and testing functionality in the official PMI handbook, as procedures dictate when reviewed sections are permanently submitted.
Question formats extend beyond traditional multiple-choice to include drag-and-drop activities, graphical interpretation, and multiple-response selections.
