Stop Winging It. Your Stakeholders Deserve Better.

The difference between spontaneous and unprepared is about $4 million.

I used to think I was good at thinking on my feet. Turns out I was just fast at saying the wrong thing with confidence. 😅 I lost a project sponsor once because I answered her question about business impact with a two-minute explanation of our sprint velocity. She did not ask about sprint velocity. She asked why she should keep funding us. I gave her a process answer to a value question. By the time I realized what happened, she had already moved the money to another program.

The trap is that it feels good in the moment. You are talking. Words are coming out. People are nodding. 🙂 But nodding is not the same as buying in. Half the time they are nodding because they want you to stop talking so they can move to the next agenda item. The technical professionals who get funded, get promoted, and get their projects approved are not the ones who talk the most. They are the ones who say the right thing first. That is a skill you build. It is not a talent you are born with.

Your stakeholders sit through dozens of project updates a month. Most of them blur together into a fog of jargon and Gantt charts. 📊 The one they remember is the one that answered their question before they asked it. Sixty seconds. No filler. That is not being glib. That is respecting their time enough to actually prepare. 🎯
